It would be impossible to come across any of Kihu's backstory without directly addressing him; though not necessarily secret, the vast majority of his upbringing throughout past centuries is undocumented as if without traceable or official identity.Until recently, he had lived as a mere karasu butterfly koi dwelling in a freshwater pond near The Ruby Sea, ebony in scales that grew a hint of iridescence as hundreds of years were survived. So, too, did he grow an aged, human-like conscience beyond the natural instincts of Cyprinus, and this in turn became his baptism from fish to auspice. Inexplainable affinities that pertained to the manipulation of vocal, alluring song and mimicry of nearly all sounds a realm beyond ventriloquism became his magick... and it would not be too far of a stretch to assume that tales of sirens and mermen perhaps had some roots within Kihu's exploration of Eorzea's oceans.Only in the last handful of umbral and astral moons has he branched out from other bodies of underwater forests to the curious lands of civilization with the illusioned guise of an Au Ra—a Xaela, more specifically, and one that borrows the name of the Ejinn tribe. (Their ebony scales shine like his own and the clan's affinity for swimming were an obvious choice to the finned being.)

:: P E R S O N A L I T Y ::
Of immediate note is this man's selective mutism. Though highly practiced in a multitude of languages, he refrains from ever speaking out of a personal fear that would not likely be shared to anyone unless able to be trusted with his life. Nevertheless, he is eloquent in sign language and often has a small notebook on his person should written communication be needed. Being foreign in that regard keeps him shy and sometimes misunderstood as disinterested though such could not be further from the truth.Beneath that quiet, sternly-handsome exterior is a mind that is always reeling through daydreams, questions, and wide-eyed observation—such stares being the only things he seems to retain as a clue towards his true identity since it is hard not to find that gaze to be as eerily fishy as it is. Nothing pleases him more than knowledge... especially of the human psyche and its uniqueness within every mind.Idle times are spent enjoying vegetarian snacks like his favored Kojin pickles, reading all sorts of story genres and textbooks, testing the limits of cautious exploration, and, if one has the luck of all Twelve gods' blessings, they may even come across him singing in unknowing isolation....
